Pinball Dreaming: Pinball Dreams free for the day on iPhone

Classic Amiga pinball game, Pinball Dreams is free for the next 24 hours on the App Store, down from the usual price of £2.99.

Pinball Dreams was originally released to critical acclaim on the Amiga in 1992 by Digital Illusions CE, who you might know from their new, trendy, acronym DICE and from games like Mirror’s Edge and Battlefield.

This new version by Cowboy Rodeo contains all four of the original tables, including the excellent Beat Box and ‘rated 9+ for mild horror’ Nightmare table.

As with all well designed pinball machines, there’s a deceptive amount of depth and skill involved if you want to get the very high scores, with a multitude of routes and difficult-to-hit bonuses that can drive you insane.

The iPhone version is said to run at a stable 60fps on all models, and has the added bonus of being able to be played in Portrait or Landscape modes.

Oh, and it’s free and works on a modern system you can buy in the shops, rather than on a now defunct Commodore home computer, which is always a plus.
