WWDC 2010: 35 million apps downloaded for 2 million iPads since launch

Steve Jobs launched his keynote speech at WWDC 2010 in San Francisco today with the habitual avalanche of big numbers.

Focusing initially on the newest release, the iPad, he confirmed that since US launch around two months ago, iPad has sold over 2 million units and users have downloaded an impressive 35 million apps and 5 million iBooks.
Impressive figures for a relatively expensive piece of kit which had been dubbed by many as a potential white elephant, especially when you consider that it's only just arrived outside the US and there are a comparatively limited 8500 native apps available.

With the device set to roll out in a host more countries in the next few months, targets of 10 million unit sales in 2010 are suddenly starting to look rather conservative.
