World of Warcraft is a go-go

Streaming game service Gaikai will work on iPad thanks to HTML5

Over the weekend, we reported the upcoming Gaikai game streaming service has been looking at iPad, most notably getting the World of Warcraft MMO onto Apple's 'magical' device.

Headhoncho Dave Perry posted a sneak peek photo on his personal blog, showing the game running on the device.

This immediately raised fears Apple might try to block Gaikai on iPhone and iPad, as it's done with Flash.

However, further correspondence with Perry reveals this shouldn't be a problem.

Magic of HTML5

The reason is that Gaikai plans on using HTML5 for its web browser-based player.

HTML5 the next major revision of the HyperText Markup Language, and as well as being supported by all technology companies, has also been praised as the future of web technology by Steve Jobs, and is supported in Apple's Safari browser.

HTML5 reduces the need for plug-in based applications, such as Abode Flash and Microsoft Silverlight.

Hence, World of Warcraft - and all the other games supported by Gaikai - will be playable on iPad (control issue aside), HTML5 dodging any blocksticks wielded by Apple.

Gaikai will be launching its North American beta in the coming weeks.
