Apple today announced that this year's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will get underway in San Francisco on June 7th. The word on the street is that the event could well see iPhone 4G getting its first public airing - trips to the bar notwithstanding.

Though the 4G isn't specifically mentioned by Apple, it has revealed iPhone OS 4.0 will take up plenty of the event's five days, with the first ever iPad development sessions also on the agenda.

"This year's WWDC offers developers in-depth sessions and hands-on working labs to learn more about iPhone OS 4, the world's most advanced mobile operating system," says senior VP of iPhone software Scott Forstall.

"WWDC provides a unique opportunity for developers to work side-by-side with Apple engineers and interface designers to make their iPhone and iPad apps even better."

Though we originally pencilled in June 22nd for iPhone 4G's debut in front of the press, Apple's announcement today seems to suggest we could know more about the platform's future much sooner than we thought.
