Finnish mobile phone behemoth Nokia has today announced its latest handset and the company's first phone to use the Symbian^3 platform: the Nokia N8.

The N8 is looking to court amateur photographers with the phone's beasty 12-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash. It's got a larger sensor than ever used in another Nokia phone, and the ability to record high definition video.

You can then play back that content on the phone's 3.5-inch, high definition capacitive touch screen. Or, thanks to an HDMI video-out connector and Dolby Digital Plus surround sound, you can watch the content on your telly.

Outside of the phone's photographical prowess, the N8's focus is on apps and social networking. You can hook the handset up to Nokia's Ovi store to download games and applications, and get live Twitter and Facebook feeds straight to the N8's home screen.

As for games, the Nokia N8 can pump out flashy 3D graphics in titles like Asphalt 5 and Real Golf 2011. 2D games aren't left behind, with firm iPhone favourite Angry Birds currently on the Ovi Store, ready to play on your Nokia N8.

The N8 boasts 16GB of built-in storage, which is expandable up to 48GB with a micro SD card. The sleek device has a snappy aluminium trim around the screen, which comes in a variety of colours. At launch, you've got the choice between dark grey, silver white, green, blue, and orange.

The Nokia N8 will start shipping in the third quarter of 2010.
