Mafia Wars, a massively popular browser game by social game creator Zynga, now allows Facebook gaming fiends to get their fix anywhere by sending and receiving text messages.

Sign up your mobile through the game's 'help' menu and you'll be able to receive notifications about your Mafia family and jobs. You can then text back to 62342 (MAFIA) along with a code, to carry out a command.

For example, send F to battle someone on your fight list, send J to do a job, or send PE to purchase energy refill points.

The service is currently only available in the United States. Zynga won't charge for text messages, but message and data rates may apply from your carrier.

You can also play Mafia Wars on the iPhone and iPod touch through a free application. The iPhone version supports 3G connections, so iPhone gamers can also get their fix anywhere they get signal.

Mafia Wars is one of Zynga's most popular games. On Facebook, it is the fourth most played Zynga application and the fifth most popular game on the entire social networking behemoth, courting over 25 million active users a month.

If you live in the United States and you want to sign up for the service, boot up Mafia Wars on Facebook, click the help drop down box and choose 'SMS Mobile'.
