Geometry Wars: Touch uses Xbox Live Arcade style thumbstick controls, adds exclusive new Titan mode for iPad
Details blast into view for iPad version of classic arena shooter
Ever since the announcement of Geometry Wars for iPad, we've been pondering how the original dual-stick control scheme would translate onto the iPad's touch screen.
In an interview with Kotaku, Bizarre Creations's Craig Howard revealed that Geometry Wars: Touch will implement touch-screen controls very similar to the original Xbox Live Arcade edition.
The bottom left and right corners of the screen act as thumbsticks, with the left stick controlling the ship's movement and the right ship aiming the guns.
Howard told Kotaku: "We played around with quite a lot of control methods until we found the method seen in the final game".
He said "the virtual touch nodes act a lot like thumbsticks, and they are able to give the player a large degree of control".
Howard also discussed Titan mode, a new addition exclusive to the iPad version which throws new Titan enemies at the player. Once destroyed these Titans spit out smaller and smaller versions of the downed enemy in Asteroids style.
The launch version of Geometry Wars: Touch does not include multi-player features, although Bizarre Creations are considering "linking [the game] to popular social network sites".
As for the idea of the Geometry Wars series hitting the iPhone at some point, Howard offered up hope: "As far as the iPhone...who says we're skipping it?"
