Langdell losing grip on Edge trademark?

Tim Langdell's reign of terror over the word 'Edge' (in a video game context) may be coming to an end.

Develop is reporting that a document filed on the United States Patent and Trademark Office site, suggests that Langdell's grip on the trademark is loosening thanks to legal action by EA.

Dice employee Johan Andersson first broke the news on Twitter:

“Yay! We (DICE & EA + friends) have finally killed the idiotic 'Edge' name patent!”

However, that tweet has since been taken down, and so has a story on VG247 entitled, 'Langdell Edge trademarks canceled by US Trademark Office', suggesting that jubilation at this point is premature.

The filing that kicked off the latest flurry of rumours, made on the 24th of March, bears the heading: 'AMENDED CONSOLIDATED PETITION FOR CANCELLATION.' Hardly decisive.

Back in December 2009, Mobigame was forced to pull its game Edge from the App Store due to a legal battle with Langdell, even after changing the game's name to Edgy.

Langdell then went after other iPhone games developers, including Killer Edge Racing's Video Mind Games.
