First video of an iPad game in action revealed: Spinder Blocks

In the weeks before new hardware is publicly released, most developers are reduced to working on their games and applications using software emulation tools.

Indeed, we haven't yet heard any iPad game developer who is prepared to admit they've been able to test titles on proper iPad hardware yet.

It's a fuzzy situation and one that means any little slice of news gains additional importance.

And in that context, the video of colour-match game Spinder Blocks from US and Canadian design and special effects companies Capricorn8 and Jam3, is worthy news.

Of course the game itself isn't the most sophisticated. You have to spin the multi-faceted columns as they fall to remove them from the columns. The game starts off with one column and progressively moves up to a maximum of five.

Technically, I'd also point out that the video isn't running on the official iPad emulation as supported within the current iPhone OS. Instead it looks more like a pre-rendered video - just the sort of thing special effects companies are capable of making.

Still, if nothing else it does provide us with an idea of the scale and aspect ratio of the device - and a neat headline of course.

You can find out more about the game via its website.
