Calling all nerds: Bluetooth Star Wars Lightsaber Duel app incoming

I don't know whether the recent and abominable Star Wars films created a second generation of buzzing, zapping, hissing imaginary Jedi, but speaking as a member of the first generation there are few things finer than pretending to kill your friends with a glowing green stick.

That's why we were excited when THQ released Lightsaber Unleashed on iPhone in 2008, and that's why we're even more excited by the news that THQ is to release a two-player Bluetooth Lightsaber Duel app.

According to Mobile Entertainment, which broke the news, Lightsaber Duel will feature 11 Star Wars characters, along with the option to make custom characters and play your own duelling music during bouts.

Exactly how it will work is unclear, but the accelerometer will probably tell your iPhone to make appropriate buzzy noises as you swing your imaginary sword back and forth, and thanks to the wonders of Bluetooth when your imaginary sword hits your opponent's imaginary sword there'll be a crashing, crackling noise.

Given that it's a competitive game, the app will presumably also have some way of registering when a blow hits solid flesh.

I'll stop guessing. It's out some time early in April.
