For a device that hasn't even been announced, there certainly are a lot of rumours concerning the technical specifications, design, and release date of the Nintendo DS successor.

Raymond Padilla from RPad.TV unearthed some interesting tidbits about the potential Nintendo DS2 from developers apparently working on the new device at GDC in San Francisco. With no named sources, it's best to take this info with a giant handful of salt and file it directly under "rumour".

Padilla's anonymous sources claim that the device will continue the dual-screen tradition, but with higher resolution and bigger displays. Nintendo will also apparently nudge the screens closer together, hoping to remove the 'scary void of no return' that resides in your DS system's hinge.

The device's development kit is reported to be similar in power to the Nintendo GameCube, so developers that have worked on the GameCube and Wii will find it easy to transfer their knowledge and experience.

Also, the device apparently has an accelerometer - the motion-sensing component that you find in an iPhone or the Wii's nunchuck controller.

Finally, developers for the DS2 will reportedly have finished their games by the end of the year, which suggests that the device may be announced at E3 and released for Christmas.

These aren't the first rumours we've heard about the possible device, but hopefully Nintendo will reveal the system at E3 and put all the conjecture to rest.
