Mplayit announces App Guru app discovery program
|

As much as we all love the abundance and creativity that the recent spate of app stores provides, discovery is still a problem for developers. Getting your app noticed in the throng can be a challenge, and great games go unplayed all the time thanks to the sheer number of competitors each of them faces.

There are ways to find good games, of course, but more guidance never hurts and so Mplayit has launched App Guru, which allows a few key industry experts - Pocket Gamer among them - to rate and comment on games available on iPhone, mobile, Android, and BlackBerry.

A few words on how it all works:

With the new program, consumers are able to see a dedicated feed of real-time activity of the Gurus, providing them with a visual guide to what the experts think about the thousands of apps and games available across leading iPhone, Android and smartphone platforms. In addition to providing commentary about the various apps, Gurus can also rank apps on a scale of one to five; apps rated by at least two Gurus with ratings or four or five stars get the top accolade, a “Guru Approved” badge. The “Guru Approved” badge has an associated pop-up that features the Guru ratings and comments in the order they were submitted, and links out to full reviews posted to the Guru’s respective sites for users to read more if they wish.

“We’ve set the bar high for an app to become ‘Guru Approved’” explain's Mplayit CEO Michael Powers, “so consumers and developers can truly see which apps are a cut above the rest. It’s a simple message, really. If your friends like it and it’s Guru Approved - get it, you won’t be disappointed!”

App Guru is in its early phases at the moment. More contributors and opinions will be added to the service in time, and regular posters from the general community will be able to attain 'Guru' status by posting frequently.

At launch, contributors to App Guru include:

Android Arcade
