It's not always the case that good games sell well, but when it does happen it makes us want to jump up and down with joy.

Or, in other words, play Doodle Jump, which itself has just smashed through the 3 million downloads barrier on the App Store.

Doodle Jump most certainly falls into the good game category, having picked up a solid Silver Award back in October.

The accelerometer based jumper also appears to be gaining pace, with today's announcement that downloads have hit 3 million following a similar one made in December when the title surpassed sales of 1 million.

That means 2 million people have downloaded Doodle Jump from the App Store in less than three months - a figure that equates to roughly 37,000 sales a day, according to our calculations.

MobileCrunch estimates that developer Lima Sky's founders - brothers Igor and Marko Pusenjak - will have made $2.08 million from the game's App Store outing alone, Doodle Jump having also recently made the leap to Android and mobile.

It's a measure of success that Lima Sky itself believes makes the game the most successful release from an independent development house currently on the App Store. If downloads continue at this rate, you're unlikely to find many willing to disagree.
