Retro lovers will be pleased to learn that this week’s European DSiWare update is set to include Capcom’s Dark Void Zero, an affectionate homage to the classic 8-bit platformers of yesteryear.

Based on the 360/PS3 title of the same name, this retro-tinged action platformer has been deliberately programmed to look, play, and sound like an 8-bit NES game.

The company has even concocted an elaborate backstory which outlines how the game is actually a lost NES classic which was never released to the general public.

It’s all complete baloney, of course, but anyone who has enjoyed the likes of Retro Game Challenge on DS will appreciate the knowing humour and subtle in-jokes. If your interest has been suitably aroused then you should know that Dark Void Zero will retail for a very reasonable 500 points.

Elsewhere, soccer lovers have Real Football 2010 to enjoy: a subtle update of last year’s 2009 edition, this release is going for 800 points and should allow players to build up some anticipation for the forthcoming World Cup.

Two other titles - Flips: The Bubonic Builders (500 points) and Globulos Party (500 points) - bring up the rear.

All of these titles will be available on the European DSiWare channel tomorrow.

Damien's mum hoped he would grow out of playing silly video games and gain respectable employment. Perhaps become a teacher or a scientist, that kind of thing. Needless to say she now weeps openly whenever anyone asks how her son's getting on these days.
