iPad UK prices leaked?

Reports are in that the UK iPad prices have been leaked online.

Geeky Gadgets claims to have been informed by a source that the wi-fi units will retail at £389 for the 16GB version, rising to £439 for the 32GB model and peaking at £489 for the 64GB top model. There’s no news as yet on the 3G line.

At first glance it would appear that the UK is being stiffed on prices yet again, with the US figures working out at £326, £392 and £457, respectively. However, this doesn’t take into account VAT, so it’s not quite as big a discrepancy as you might think.

It had been rumoured previously that you’d be able to pre-order your iPad from February 25th, but the sober among you will have noticed that the date has been and gone without so much as a peep from Apple or retailers.

One explanation for the continued lack of a pre-order facility is that the device isn’t ‘legal’ yet, the device’s spec page stating that “This device has not yet been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission.”

It's felt that Apple took this step to avoid leaks from government sources, but now that the iCat is out of the iBag you have to wonder: why the delay?

More news as it breaks.
