Final Fantasy and sequel Final Fantasy II are now available for iPhone and iPod touch.

As we previously reported, the first two games in Square Enix's hugely popular role-playing franchise were scheduled for release today - and here they are.

The pair come to iPhone and iPod touch in remastered form after having been released in 2007 as remakes with improved graphics and new content for PSP.

Of course, new touch controls have been incorporated that dramatically alter how the games are played.

Additionally, the price tag for each game was considerably higher on PSP than today's debut on iPhone and iPod touch. At only a fraction of the price of the PSP editions, these oldies are looking like goodies.

The arrival of the Final Fantasy series on iPhone and iPod touch is also significant because it signals Square Enix taking the platform very seriously. Original role-playing games have been promised in the months following these Final Fantasy instalments.

Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II are available for iPhone and iPod touch individual at a price of £5.49/$8.99.
