MWC 2010: Samsung unveils the bada Wave S8500

This year's MWC hasn't properly kicked off yet, but Samsung has dropped its news early by revealing the Wave at this evening's preposterously theatrical press conference (liveblogged by Engadget).

The Wave, which runs the new bada platform, features a super AMOLED display that reflects five times less light than Samsung's previous AMOLED screens, and doesn't require a separate touch panel.

The processor runs at an impressive 1GHz, and you can have ten home screens.

The Wave also features a Vodafone 360-like social hub, integrating contacts from Facebook, Gmail, MySpace, and so on. You'll be able to receive messages in one big combined inbox.

And now the important part: apps. Bada apparently allows developers to create content easily, following a consistent aesthetic. They can also use Flash.

Speaker Thomas Richter says, “Samsung Apps … is an online space to download applications in an easy way.” It seems Samsung has plans to “invest aggressively” in bringing high quality apps to the store.

Basically, the Wave looks like a nice phone, but out of this world. We'll let you know what it's like to actually touch one after Jon Jordan gets his hands on one in Barcelona.

We don't have a full specifications sheet yet, but some leaked specs are available thanks to DailyMobile. Here they are.
