Believe it or not, the rather worrying fragmentation of the Android market has caused many owners to lose sleep at night.

Even though the new Nexus One is rocking Android version 2.1, many leading handsets - including the HTC Hero - remain stuck with 1.5, thanks largely to the fact that they have proprietary operating systems which take the Android framework and embellish it with additional features.

The Motorola DEXT (or CLIQ, as it’s known in North America) is another phone saddled with the outdated 1.5 software, but the good news for owners of this excellent mobile is that 2.1 may be coming as soon as March.

At this stage it would appear that it’s the US which is getting the update first, although the fact that Motorola is about to release it would suggest that other regions will follow suit shortly afterwards.

Damien's mum hoped he would grow out of playing silly video games and gain respectable employment. Perhaps become a teacher or a scientist, that kind of thing. Needless to say she now weeps openly whenever anyone asks how her son's getting on these days.
