For PlayStation launches, the first games always include mahjong, train simulators and Ridge Racer, while Nintendo prefers something from the Mario stable.

But keeping to its large format size, it looks like Apple's tablet will get a lot of newspaper-type games.

At least Kotaku is reporting that little-known US developer Stand Alone Inc has announced, via press release, that it will be releasing a version of its Crosswords app for the tablet, or iPad as president Bob Gottlieb is reported to have called it.

Of course, as the press release isn't actually live on Stand Alone's website (or anywhere else that we can see), we're taking Kotaku's word for it, in the assumption that someone may have sent out a press release timed for 10am PST on Wednesday 27th January a day early.

"The goal is to utilise the larger screen, but keep both the functionality and the sleek, intuitive, custom design that our users love," Gottlieb apparently says.
