Unreleased Iraqi-made Amiga game Babylonian Twins coming to iPhone

You got to love games with a bit of history behind them, and few games have as much history as forthcoming iPhone game Babylonian Twins.

This is a project that began in Iraq in 1993, developed for the Amiga by three students living in Baghdad. Babylonian Twins was something of an answer to the games springing up around the first Gulf War, in an effort to depict Iraqi history in a more enlightened manner.

Unfortunately, due to the economic restrictions placed on the country at the time, the team was never able to release the game (which they'd put together entirely in machine code using a single Amiga 500 with no hard drive and just half a meg of RAM), and by the time it could be released the Amiga had gone the way of the Persian Empire.

But the original Babylonian Twins team has since reunited over the internet from Canada, the US and Australia, and after receiving a huge amount of support and enthusiasm from the Amiga community when they released videos and demos of the original game, Babylonian Twins has now been revamped for the iPhone generation.

The game - which now includes enhanced graphics, sound, gameplay and new levels - follows the adventures of twin princes Nasir and Blasir as they embark on a quest to vanquish an evil sorcerer and restore peace to the empire.

Below is a trailer for the forthcoming iPhone version of Babylonian Twins, followed by a look at the original Amiga version. Stay tuned for more news as it comes in.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
