Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata has revealed his brief for the DS’s eventual successor - better graphics and Wii-like motion sensing capabilities.

The Nintendo president was speaking to Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun (kindly translated by Kotaku) on a number of topics, but the most interesting were his comments on the company’s next handheld.

“[It will have] highly detailed graphics," said Iwata, "and it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing."

He was unwilling to go into the exact time frame in which we could expect to see such a device in light of the DS’s strong sales up to this point. In this country alone, the device recently overtook the PS2 as the best selling games device of all time.

Iwata also discussed his plans to increase the number of Nintendo wi-fi hotspots in Japan to include a variety of businesses. Currently, you can go into a Japanese McDonald’s and download special content onto your DS, as well as use the connection to play online.
