Amid the controversy surrounding Nokia’s promotion of various emulators on its flagship N900 device it’s easy to forget that the phone is shaping up to be something pretty special.

Not only does the powerful handset offer 32GB of on-board storage, a physical QWERTY keyboard, and a 5-megapixel Carl Zeiss camera - it’s also the first Nokia phone to use the powerful new Maemo operating system.

If you’ve been wondering just how you’re going to get your hands on one of these wonderful toys then you’ll be pleased to know that Vodafone has confirmed it will be carrying the phone in its UK stores from January 7th 2010.

What's that? You wanted one for Christmas? You're in luck - we've also received confirmation that Carphone Warehouse will be selling the phone from December 26th - clearly with a view to hoovering up all that festive cash being spread around by the less imaginative.

The N900 will be available from £35 on a 24 month contract and both sources are now taking pre-orders.

Damien's mum hoped he would grow out of playing silly video games and gain respectable employment. Perhaps become a teacher or a scientist, that kind of thing. Needless to say she now weeps openly whenever anyone asks how her son's getting on these days.
