The App Stork: Introducing The Roadie, Grim Reaper, Urban Rivals and...
|

Just before the App Stork flies south for the winter (it thinks it’s a goose and we haven’t the heart to tell it) it has managed to swoop in over our lovely iPhone and iPod touch developer news forum once again, to gulp up a glut of new iPhone games to regurgitate lovingly into the open mouths of you lot.

If any of you developers are keen to get your wares into next week’s App Stork, the last one before Xmas, don’t be shy with the links and pics. On the subject of screenshots, make sure you use JPEGS and not PNGs, as our forum doesn’t seem to be too keen on the latter.

And so, without further ado, here's this week’s clutch. Enjoy.

The Roadie - S&H Entertainment Localization

It’d be easy to draw lazy comparisons between this and the recently released Brutal Legend on home consoles, but on closer inspection it’s clear that The Roadie is no covers act.

The game appears to be a duet between rhythm action and side-scrolling action - a bit like MEVO and the Grooveriders but with added devil horn salutes, guitars and rawk.

By tapping along in time to the heavy riffage, The Roadie trundles through a fantasy land of rock regalia, doing battle with all manner of decadently over the top foes, mostly of the robot variety (probably because they listen to Aphex Twin instead of Anthrax).

The game’s on sale at the moment for the festive period, so snap it up while it’s still 59p.

Grim Reaper - Apfel Werke
The Christmas shopping rush can make one yearn for death, and so Apfel Werke has obliged by delivering him to your iPhone. There doesn’t appear to be too much that’s original about this side-scrolling effort, but the characters and visuals are charming and the ability to replace the Grim Reaper’s typical scythe with a chainsaw certainly takes the backache out of reaping. The developer has even submitted a Christmas version of the game, featuring festive themed music, costumes and locations. Grim Reaper is out now, priced £1.19

Urban Rivals - Boostr

Card games can be a little dry, but by adding a massively multiplayer online element to the proceedings, Boostr might just be able to drag the aging top trumps format kicking and screaming into the new decade.

Apparently, there are a massive 7 million players already battling it out with their teams online so there’s no chance you’ll find yourself short of people to play with.

There are 500 characters to choose from, extensive online trading options various in-game communication options and in-app purchases for adding to the thousands of included character illustrations.
