These days all you hear is “App Store this”, “App Store that”, so it’s refreshing to be told that someone other than Apple is managing to get bums on seats when it comes to mobile phone-based DLC.

Nokia has revealed that a million downloads a day are occurring via its new Ovi Store, and that number is expected to rise over the next few months.

“We're doing just under one million downloads a day, and our download numbers are growing 100% month-on-month,” boasts George Linardos, the company's Vice President of Product, Media.

The truly incredible thing is that the current Ovi Store is merely a placeholder setup to consolidate all of Nokia’s current download options. The “proper” store is still being worked on.

“All the while there's been this new platform being built in the background, which we'll be talking about in the next couple of months and launching in the Spring with what we're calling 2.0,” added Linardos.

2.0, eh? Original name.

Damien's mum hoped he would grow out of playing silly video games and gain respectable employment. Perhaps become a teacher or a scientist, that kind of thing. Needless to say she now weeps openly whenever anyone asks how her son's getting on these days.
