Nintendo DS overtakes PlayStation 2 as UK's biggest selling console of all time
Tops 10 million units sold, prior to Christmas rush
Other than the launch of the large form factor DSi XL, news of Nintendo's handheld console has been thin this year. But apparently that hasn't stopped UK gamers for buying the hardware, as the DS just topped the PlayStation 2 as the UK's biggest selling console of all time, according to MCV.
During November the DS crossed the mega-milestone of 10.05 millions units sold, surpassing the PS2 that currently stands at 10.02 million. And with the Christmas rush only just beginning, it's likely to open its lead even further before the year is out.
Making this even more impressive is the age of the two devices. The PS2 is currently around twice as old as the DS, meaning Nintendo's handheld has essentially sold twice as fast as Sony's living room stalwart.
This works out at around 5,800 DS consoles being sold per day in the UK, with one in six of us now owning a dual screen Nintendo handheld. And by all accounts, the Wii is proving to be the UK's fastest selling console of all time, so it looks like Nintendo will be having a very merry Christmas.
