The App Stork: Introducing BloodyXmas, EDEN, Chromixa and...
|

Without wanting to come over all maudlin, the variety and raw unbridled creativity that crops up on the App Store week in, week out is truly staggering.

This week we have a title that sports a fiercely original and yet playable concept in the shape of Chromixa, while in the games at the bottom of the page there's a title with the admirably gutsy title of All Fridges Are Psychotic.

The point here is that there are many more deserving games on the App Store than we have time to review. Sadly, there’s only so much whipping a warehouse full of monkeys with word processors will take.

That’s why we have the App Stork. It is, if you'll excuse the tired adage, for and by you.

So, if you're the developer of an exciting new iPhone game that's about to be, or has already been, released, arm yourself with your best YouTube links, images and Twitter feeds and get down to the iPhone and iPod touch developer news section of our forums to post yourself senseless.

We feature every new game that appears in there every week, so it’s guaranteed exposure for those struggling to make waves elsewhere.

And remember readers, these games are being made for you to enjoy, so if you spot something on the App Stork that ends up making your thumbs purr with delight, be sure to get down to the forum and let the relevant developer know.

And now, for this week’s new arrivals...

BloodyXmas - Mad Finger

It’s almost a mathematical impossibility not to be instantly enchanted by a game that lets you mow down evil penguins with a combine harvester while dressed as Santa. Call it crass, call it macabre, call it whatever you like - we call it love at first sight.

Taking the MiniGore format into brave new bloodsoaked territory by substituting bladed weapons for guns, BloodyXmas is a tongue in cheek feast of over the top gore, machismo and all out silliness.

Probably not a suitable gift for Aunt Hilda, but definitely worth a sniff for iPhone gamers in need of a polished looking hack and slash-'em-up that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

It’s not out yet, but we’re sure it will land well before the 25th, so any day now.

EDEN - Mocolatte Sporting decidedly mature presentation, EDEN is a stylish remix of a board twisting puzzle mechanic that’s been seen more than once on the App Store already.

By cleverly chucking Warp Gates, Killer Plants and Trap Doors into the mix, however, EDEN sports an enduring challenge to match its grown up visage.

It also has some handy one thumb controls, which mean you can use your other hand to balance a plate on a stick, or play ping pong, or something. There are 40 levels to wind your noggin around, which for £1.79 isn’t half bad.

Chromixa - Simon Watson This is a very special looking game indeed. Chromixa employs a colour mixing puzzle mechanic that’s so ingeniously simple it’s hard to understand why it wasn’t thought of until now and easy to believe that it will inspire a rainbow of imitators.

Rather than offer a single type of puzzle, Chromixa adheres to its namesake and blends a raft of different puzzle types, all linked by the central theme of mixing colours.

It defies explanation despite its simplicity, so check out the video below - or, better still, fork out the paltry £1.19 it costs to buy it and give it a try.
