iPod game marks second Square Enix RPG in two weeks

iPhone Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes - Encore out now

At this year's Tokyo Game Show Square Enix made quite a big show about its iPhone plans, which kicked into action recently when Hills and Rivers Remain hit the App Store.

Now, less than two weeks later, its unexpected iPod hit Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes has also debuted on iPhone, combining the click-wheel controlled RPG original with the unreleased sequel to become the tunefully titled Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes - Encore.

The game follows the rescue escapades of Conductor of Legend, Ziggy, whose musical abilities allow him to turn tunes into physical form. Depending on which song you choose to sing, one of fifty different Tune Troopers will answer the call to fight alongside you.

Encore promises to expand on the original experience with a new storyline and a game that's double the size of the original - somewhere in the region of 30 hours of gameplay.

Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes - Encore is one of those rare titles to hit the App Store at the full price of £5.99 ($9.99), but a free demo is also available alongside so you can make an informed decision.

Hit the App Store button to go check it out, and take a look at the video to get an idea of how this unique music-based game plays out.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
