Stretch your legs because you'll be doing a whole lot of running when Mirror's Edge hits iPhone and iPod touch in early 2010.

EA Mobile made the surprising announcement early this morning, providing first details and screenshots of the lauded console game's iPhone iteration.

You take the role of underground runner Faith Connors as she attempts to take on the oppressive city overseers framing her sister for murder.

14 levels of side-scrolling parkour action are promised, complete with ziplines, and harrowing rooftop jumps. The graphics are 3D, though, as to capture the look of the original game. "Dynamic camera angles capture the intense action," EA points out.

As the screenshots show, combat will play a role, though we're not certain how much it will factor. It seems unlikely that any of the original's gunplay will make it in here - instead, combat looks to be purely physical.

There's no mention of alternative modes of play, although we're hoping time trials make an appearance along with leaderboards for tracking performances online. It couldn't hurt to have YouTube replay videos available for upload, too.

Mirror's Edge is expected for release onto the App Store in January. EA has not announced a price.
