By this time next year we can probably expect Black Friday to be a global event - no longer confined to the US. And, like so many things these days, it's all thanks to iPhone.

The App Store has ignited in a torrent of Thanksgiving weekend discounts as the game development world celebrates the first day of the American Christmas shopping period. Devs and pubs have been slashing the prices of their apps, and all the major studios are battling it out with the indies for Black Friday exposure.

Even Apple itself is getting in on the global Black Friday action by launching a one day worldwide sales.

Over on the official UK Apple store website you can grab yourself a discount on Cupertino's range of electronic goodies. The 64GB iPod touch has had 31 quid shaved off its price tag to £268; an 8GB iTouch is £11 lighter at £138; iPod nanos are down by £7; and even the high end computer product have had a delicious 70 wing-wangs dropped off their cost.

Naturall,y the same is true on the US Apple store, and a host of other retailers are following suit for today only, so if you were thinking of giving someone an iXmas, today's a good day to begin stuffing their stockings.

And when all that buyer's remorse sets in, cheer yourself up by taking a look at our Black Friday iPhone game sale roundup and snag some virtual bargains to fill up your new hardware.
