It's a shame Canadian-developed horror survival action game Dead Strike missed Halloween, but it still looks like exactly the kind of chainsaw-wielding gorefest I love to get my teeth into.

The game's plot is that a seemingly innocuous virus has been spreading around the sleepy town of Fallen Falls (awesome name), and has mutated into a full-on zombie plague. Your job is to do whatever it takes to survive the outbreak, and developer Psychoz Interactive is providing all the tools to do it with, including a flame thrower, minigun and chainsaw.

Dead Strike is fully 3D, with pleny of undead flesh munchers to chop into mincemeat. These shambling monsters respond to environmental triggers such as sounds, so tip-toeing around the town is a good survival tactic.

The graphics look very detailed, with some superbly effective and atmospheric settings (the ominous fog sets great ambience and deals with the iPhone's limited draw distance very cleverly) across 46 levels set around the huge, open city.

You can choose from four different characters each with their own strengths, and we're promised different modes of play to keep things interesting. There's also a rumour circulating that four way multiplayer will be added in a major update, which is a very alluring prospect.

Psychoz Interactive just put this trailer video and a coffin full of screenshots (attached) up on its blog as Dead Strike prepares for a December release. Check it out, then give us your thoughts after you've stopped shivering in the corner.

Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
