Gameloft brings The Settlers to iPhone

Proving it’s not just about releasing with generic, if high quality, iPhone games, Gameloft has been digging around in its licence cupboard to come up with its next iPhone game - The Settlers.

A massive success on the PC, especially in Germany - the town-building, resource-management, military strategy game has had a mixed history on portable devices. It didn’t work on mobile because it was too complex, while the DS version was just unfinished.

Hopefully, the iPhone version will have had extra love and polish.

Certainly the gameplay trailer suggests the development team has been thinking carefully about the user interface, as well as making sure the graphics are nice and clear too.

Quite whether its hardcore PC genesis can be smoothed over for the more casual iPhone market is something else we’ll be looking out for, although the iPhone version of Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution seemed to sell well, despite its less-than-helpful controls and user interface.

The Settlers is due to released sometime in November.
