Apple and Orange: November 10th iPhone release date confirmed
Tariffs revealed, including Pay As You Go prices
We already knew that Orange had negotiated itself a deal with Apple to become the UK's second supplier of the iPhone. Rumours have been circulating regarding a release date, which the operator has now confirmed as November 10th.
The contract tariffs have also been revealed for the iPhone and iPhone 3GS, both of which will demand that users come on board or a minimum of 24 months.
The iPhone 3G handset will be free on a £30 plan, while the iPhone 3GS will be provided free on a £45 monthly tariff. Data will be included on all tariffs (restricted to Orange's fair usage policy of 750MB per month), with additional free access to the BT Openzone public wi-fi network.
Assuming you don't mind topping up by £50 at purchase, you will be able to buy an Orange iPhone 3G on Pay As You Go for £333. Although it's not cheap, the main concern iPhone users have with PAYG is data costs, though the Orange offer also includes 250MB of data per month and the same access to BT's public wi-fi, making this a pretty tempting deal for anyone keen to avoid contracts.
Starting at five pounds per month, there's also a selection of tethering bundles, allowing you to access mobile broadband on your laptop through the iPhone.
The Orange iPhone will be retailing through Orange shops, online, through Orange's HMV concession stands, the Carphone Warehouse, Phones4U and a host of other outlets. As expected, Orange hasn't started a price war with its contracts, but O2 is going to have to put some work in to match these packages.
