We’ve been talking about the Motorola Droid handset for a few weeks now. The Android 2.0 device was shaping up to be quite the multimedia monster thanks to some impressive hardware, an ultra-slim QWERTY keyboard and all-round good looks.

It’s just been officially unveiled in the US, where it’s all set for a November 6th release on the Verizon network. It’ll cost $200 on a two year contract, starting from $40 per month.

The Motorola website has also updated, complete with a full fact sheet on the device.

The launch also coincides with Google’s announcement of Google Navigation - the company’s take on GPS navigation that could well put a number of dedicated Sat Nav manufacturers out of business - which was heavily featured during the launch of the Droid.

This seems to strengthen rumours that Google has had a direct hand in the development of the device.

There’s even an in-car holster available for the phone, which uses some kind of magnetic jiggery pokery to put the phone into Navigation mode.

Here’s a brief rundown of the phone’s capabilities:

3.7” capacitive display with a 854 x 480 resolution
16GB of internal storage (Up to 32GB microSD expandable)
3.5mm headset jack
5 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash
Flash 10 ready HTML browser
WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS
Google Maps Navigation (Beta)
