The second major iteration of the Android mobile operating system is nearly upon us, and Google has made the appropriate tools available for developers to create applications for it.

The introductory video below highlights some of the new features we can look forward to, such as a new, more intuitive contact system. This will allow users to synchronise and aggregate contact info from a number of accounts.

Of more interest to gamers, though, is this line from the Android developer’s blog: “With the new Bluetooth API, you can now easily add peer-to-peer connectivity or gaming to your applications.”

Expect to see more local multiplayer support in future Android titles.
