New larger-screen Nintendo DSi rumoured, denied

It's not been long since the DSi was released and if the rumours are true, we may be in store for yet another, only this time with larger screens.

Nikkei, the subscription only Japanese business site, suggests that the newer generation DSi will boast both screens in excess of 4", a fair jump from the current 3.25". For comparative purposes, the PSP and the PSPgo boast sizes of 4.3" and 3.8" respectively, so the newer DSi variant would sit nicely in the middle.

Now, don't get us wrong: while the DS and DSi screen size has served us well, we wouldn't complain if it was increased. In fact, our eyes will no doubt welcome the change with open arms.

DSi owners might not be quite so enthusiastic, though. For those of you who literally just shelled out for a DSi, the chances are you will be slightly annoyed by the news. It all seems a bit soon if we're frank, considering how recently the handheld was released in the west.

Another issue to note is that DSiWare games can't be transferred from one DSi to another, so you would need to repurchase any titles should you be tempted to upgrade. It's claimed this to help prevent piracy, to go alongside other improved, built in anti-piracy features.

With no comment from Nintendo, it may only be an elaborate hoax. Still, you can't deny how nice two larger screens would be, from a gaming perspective.
