Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars out now on PSP

[Update: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is now available on the PSP Store]

It used to be a royal wedding that brought the nation together to spend money on frivolities and stare at a screen for hours on end. These days it's a new Grand Theft Auto game release that spurs a brief and wonderful oneness among our people, and today we see the launch of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on the PSP.

We won't get too embroiled in what it's about, since you can read our full review of the game from yesterday. Suffice to say that PSP GTA: CTW (WTF?) bagged itself a well-earned Gold Award, and proved itself worthy of its DS lineage.

Although it doesn't appear to be available just yet (it's still very early in the day, of course) Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will be retailing on the PSP Store today for £29.99 and weighing in at around the half gigabyte mark, so leave yourself a good hour for download and install if you're going digital.

Rather aggravatingly, you can pick the game up considerably cheaper if you made the astute decision not to buy a PSPgo. A quick glance around t'internet shows the boxed copy can be snagged for a considerably more wallet friendly £22.99 from Gameplay and Coolshop, including free delivery.

It seems rather unfair that lancing the cost of the UMD, box, inlay card, booklet, physical distribution and retailer profits adds seven quid to the price of the digital version, but perhaps that's in keeping with the criminal nature of the GTA franchise.

Regardless, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on the PSP earns its fee, so do whatever it takes to get the game on your console as quickly as possible. And don't forget to let us know what you think about the game in the comments section below and over on the full review.

Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
