Acer officially gets smart with beTouch and neoTouch phones

The Smartphone market is red-hot right now, with the Apple, Google, Blackberry and Palm all fighting it out for dominance in a sector generally favoured by businessmen who wear neat suits and use their mobiles for boring tasks like planning meetings and checking stocks.

Microsoft - another contender in this rapidly crowding marketplace - has just released a much-needed update to its mobile operating system in the shape of Windows Mobile 6.5, and this has obviously pleased computer manufacturer Acer as the firm has announced it’s expanding its Smartphone line-up.

Consisting of two new product lines - beTouch and neoTouch - Acer’s new phones will all pack the latest iteration of Windows Mobile, which has been tailored to steal back some of the market share that has been lost to rivals such as Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android platform.

beTouch represents the budget end of the scale, with the E100, E101 and E200 offering an affordable route in for prospective mobile business types.

The neoTouch range is rather more limited at the moment, with only one phone in the portfolio - the S200, which was previously known as the Acer F1.

Aside from some lovely promotional images there’s not a great deal more information available on these intriguing products, but Microsoft will be pleased that Windows Mobile is getting much-needed support in the marketplace.

According to reports, some of these phones will be hitting UK stores as soon as next week, so keep your eyes peeled if you’re keen to see what all this WinMo fuss is about.

Damien's mum hoped he would grow out of playing silly video games and gain respectable employment. Perhaps become a teacher or a scientist, that kind of thing. Needless to say she now weeps openly whenever anyone asks how her son's getting on these days.
