The App Stork: Introducing Boost 3D, Star Ride, Struck and...
|

Have you visited our forums lately? You should. Why? Because they're rammed with iPhone developers vying for your attention with announcements about a ton of fine games, many of which we simply don’t have the time to cover on the main site.

That’s the nature of the beast - the App Store is simply too wild a creature to tame with our already comprehensive Pocket Gamer coverage alone.

Remember, as always, the developers who post their wares on our forums are laying their souls bare. They put blood sweat and tears into making games (well, some of them do) and your feedback is very important to them. So don’t forget to leave your thoughts behind in the iPhone and iPod touch developer news section of the forums.

But before you do that, have a go of this lot (especially Boost 3D), you won’t regret it.

Boost 3D - Jonathan Lenis

How nobody thought of this concept until now is beyond us. Boost 3D is a masterstroke mash-up - part racer, part dynamic puzzler, and all class. It’s dressed to kill, resembling a speedy plummet through a disco themed plumbing system on the planet Tetris, sporting some of the most eye-catching minimalist design this side of Zen Bound.

It was released just five days ago and the few customer reviews that have appeared so far are gushingly positive. Sounds like it’s worth every penny of its £1.19 price tag and more. If you try this out, do let us know if you think it’s as much fun as it looks.

Star Ride - Andrea Mazzini

Another startlingly bare looking game, Star Ride’s gameplay is as punishingly stark as its classy presentation. We’re guessing this one probably won’t remain a long-term fixture of your iPhone gaming intake, but the premise definitely speaks of short-term one more go addiction.

There’s a paid version, of course, but if you can’t manage the massive sum of £1.19 and don’t mind the odd banner advert book-ending your play sessions, there’s an ad-funded version to enjoy too. Consider your excuses exhausted - cables out!

Struck
- ArtWhirled

Boardgames are slowly making their presence felt on the App Store, so it’s refreshing to see one that attempts something new, as opposed to merely digitally miniaturising an existing table top effort.

Granted, Struck, by the developer's own admission, is heavily influenced by staples such as chess, checkers and backgammon. But it's beatifully presented, sporting four different themed boards so you never get fed up staring at the same screen for a whole game. It’s not out yet, but you can follow the game’s progress on the ArtWhirled developer blog below.
