Ghouls 'N Ghosts unearthed for iPhone?

Sir Arthur is strapping his armour on once again

Ghouls 'N Ghosts unearthed for iPhone?

Japanese gaming website Game.Watch was in attendance at this year's Tokyo Game Show, and managed to snap a couple of grainy photos that should get retro gamers quite excited.

During Capcom's iPhone presentation, the briefest of videos was shown alluding toward an iPhone adaptation of the classic retro platform game Ghouls 'N Ghosts.

As you old people will know, Ghouls 'N Ghosts is the celebrated sequel to the equally popular (and equally impossible) Ghosts 'N Goblins, in which Sir Arthur runs around his Hellish domain throwing lances at zombies and skeletons, wearing his armour to begin with and not much more than a loincloth the rest of the time.

Capcom didn't actually put a name to this short video, however, but general opinion seems to point toward this being an adaptation of the sequel, rather than the original. It may not be as simple as that, however.

After consulting with only the nerdiest of retro gaming nerds, the 3D visuals employed on a 2D plane are apparently more akin to Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins on the PSP, though the closest comparison my retro gaming elite could find to the map screen also shown on Game.Watch is a level from Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts on the SNES.

Chances are equally good that Capcom is planning a new take on the popular franchise, or some kind of amalgam of the original, its sequel, and the subsequent console adaptations.

Regardless of exactly which game we're looking at, you can bet your bloodstained loincloth that it's going to be a damn hard game - but a damn good one.

Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
