The PSP revival wouldn't be complete without SNK rolling out the armoured warhorse franchise Metal Slug, and the eighth addition to the popular series has just been announced for release in Japan.

Titled Metal Slug XX, the game includes the combat school mode from 2002's Metal Slug X, making this a sub-sequel within the series that follows on from one of the better games featuring the 2D side scrolling armoured fortress.

SNK Playmore promises a new level of hand drawn detail (one of this series' most impressive features) across seven chaotic levels, some of which will include branching paths. Two player multiplayer modes will also be available over ad hoc wi-fi (highlighting the fact that this likely to be a full price PSP game, and not a Mini).

There's no news on whether this will be a boxed retail or download (or both, which seems most likely) and there's been no details on the western release as yet. Our Japanese gaming brethren will be seeing Metal Slug XX on the shelves the day before Christmas Eve - or as the Japanese call it, December 23rd.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
