Remember the days when entertainment was deliberately vulgar? When comedy didn't have a hidden message, other than drinking, violence and self-abuse are funny, amusing ways to pass the time? Well, Vivid Games is looking to recreate the days of The Young Ones in the shape of puzzle game Boozle.

The game takes the match-three, Bejeweled mechanic and gives it to a drunken designer at a frat party to see what he can do to refresh the formula. It seems the debauched design dude took a look at his immediate surroundings for inspiration, and based the game on the concept of eating and drinking as much as possible, with the game ending when you're constitution fails and you vom it all up.

To really bring the party atmosphere to the game, a raucous hard rock soundtrack is included, though you're allowed to bring your own mix tape to the party to annoy the other drunks with (that means you can choose your own songs from the iPhone's playlist).

There are a lot of Bejeweled clones on the App Store, but it's great to se a developer making an effort to cater to the semi-mature, pocket gaming layabout who thrives on Adult Swim cartoons and laughs when people trip up in the street.

The drinking is well under way, so Boozle should be chucking up its guts on iPhone soon.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
