Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker PSP demo sneaks in

Developer Konami today unveiled a demo of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for PSP at the Tokyo Game Show, and which you can download without having to sell a kidney.

Don't worry your eyes aren't playing tricks: Konami (via IGN) has made it possible for you to try out the new Metal Gear Solid PSP title – which is looking very, very promising – and if you have a PSP-owning friend you can even play the stealth-'em-up demo co-operatively.

For those poor souls still unfamiliar with the series, you play the role of a highly trained soldier sent in to save the day from the threat of nuclear war, walking robots and other nasty bad guys, as part of a cinematic, twisting plot.

What makes the series special is the dependency on stealth. This isn't to say you can't go on Rambo-style rampages if you are so inclined, but it doesn't usually end well. Once the alarm is sounded and all the guards scramble to take you down you things get really tough, so it's best to avoid detection and 'remove' or navigate around the guards as quietly as possible.

The good news is you have access to quite the arsenal, including a silenced pistol, machine guns, claymore mines and even a remote controlled rocket launcher is available to help you sneak through the story, as well as lots of other gadgetry.

The bad news is the release date for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker won't be announced until next year, but at least you can have a play and look at videos and screenshots to help suppress your stealthy urges until then.
