Canadian video game incubator hatches fantasy

Epic puzzle platform adventure game Kingdom of Gnester for iPhone

At the beginning of 2008, the Canadian Interactive Media Alliance (IMA) - funded by a host a top game studios such as Other Ocean Interactive, Longtail Studios, Telos Entertainment, Bight Games and Sculpin QA - launched a project to establish a new game development company within its incubator facility.

The IMA selected three programmers and teamed them up with two artists, who also applied to the scheme, to help develop their proposal into a working product the team could then pitch to larger companies or self-publish.

Given that Kingdom of Gnester evolved onto the iPhone, the newly formed Another Castle Studios has decided to go it alone, and the first details of the game have now been released along with a trailer.

Kingdom of Gnester follows the adventures of a gnome prince as he attempts to forge his own kingdom with the help of a magic cube used to solve puzzles along the way.

The game blends the abstract concepts of a match-three puzzle with a story-led platformer, arranging the icons to perform actions and gain new powers.

Kingdom of Gnester is due for imminent release, so have a look at the trailer below and pay a visit to the newly launched official website.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
