Tactical RPG Valkyria Chronicles II marching onto PSP
Sega moves series from console to handheld
The follow up to critically acclaimed, though abysmal selling PlayStation 3 tactical role-playing Valkyria Chronicles is heading exclusively to PSP, Sega has announced.
Under the moniker Valkyria Chronicles II, the game gives you control of Gallian Military Academy cadets two years after the events of the first game. A surprise rebellion breaks down order, sending the nation of Gallia into civil war.
The trademark hybrid battle system first deployed in the PlayStation 3 game returns here. Referred to as the BLiTZ system, it infuses real-time elements into turn-based battles.
More specifically, when a character's turn arrives, you're given real-time control to move and attack. Any actions must be taken within a time limit, which is denoted by an action gauge.
Earning experience allows you to extend the action gauge for more time to act during turns, among other benefits such as improving attack and defence abilities.
Sega states that the engine used to power the console game is being reconfigured for portable play with a whopping 20 new environments being crafted specifically for the PSP sequel.
Valkyria Chronicles II will be available for PSP in summer 2010.
