Third generation iPod touch still has room for a camera

To be quite honest, the third generation iPod touch didn't exactly blow our skirt up. The extra memory is nice, and presumably it'll be able to play any iPhone 3GS-enhanced games - assuming they don't require the digital compass, GPS or the camera - but it's hardly a revolution.

That said, iFixit got its itchy fingers on one of the new iPod touches and couldn't wait to take it apart - revealing a blank spot on the back of the PCB that would be ideal for mounting a CCD.

According to the reverse engineers, the camera construct used in the new range of iPod nanos would fit perfectly in this position, which has been left suspiciously vacant.

Adding further vinegar to this technological papercut is a report from AppleInsider, which suggests that the camera equipped iPod touch was indeed a real product that was scrapped only a month ago.

It goes on to say that Apple is believed to be reserving this feature for a future generation of iPod touch.

With a fantasy fourth generation iPod touch in mind, what sort of features would you like to see Apple add to its phone-less iPhone?

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
