Gameloft takes on Halo with iPhone sci-fi shooter Nova
Eat your heart out, Master Chief
Not shying away from first-person shooter heavyweight Halo, Gameloft announced its own sci-fi shooter N.O.V.A. at Apple's It’s Only Rock and Roll press conference in San Francisco.
Leveraging the company's impressive 3D game engine, most recently used in Modern Combat: Sandstorm, N.O.V.A. puts you in the boots of a space marine charged with eliminating hostile resistance to human forces. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?
It certainly looks familiar too, though any similarity to Bungie's intergalactic epic is a compliment.
N.O.V.A. looks like it will be one of the most visually intensive games to hit iPhone and iPod touch.
Gameloft is promising local multiplayer modes via wi-fi and Bluetooth, though no mention of potential online support.
The iPod Library Access will be supported for those of you that had upgraded to firmware 3.0, letting you listen to your own tunes while fragging enemies.
N.O.V.A. is expected to arrive on the App Store before the end of the year.
