iPhone beat-'em-up Blades of Fury revealed

Take a look at the calibur of Gameloft's soul

iPhone beat-'em-up Blades of Fury revealed

Over on SlideToPlay they've been bloodying their knuckles with Gameloft's hotly anticipated new iPhone fighting game Blades of Fury.

As expected, the teaser trailer we saw just the other day did indeed turn out to be for any one on one tournament fighting game, rather than a scrolling beat-'em-up. The game appears to be battling very much in the Soul Calibur arena, with its ostentatiously armoured combatants wielding all manner of bladed weaponry as they fight to the death.

The iPhone is distinctly lacking in fighting games, mainly due to the difficulty of controlling such titles using only a touchscreen and accelerometer. There's little else Gameloft could do other than plump for the on-screen D-pad, though it has added an interesting element to the controller in the shape of a 'sensor area' used to circle your opponent - giving the 3D fighter as much movement as you need through all three dimensions.

It also packs in wi-fi and Bluetooth multiplayer, which is a vital addition to any one-on-one brawler, so it's great to see that the mobile gaming giant has included the feature from the outset.

Blades of Fury is expected to be with us this month, so watch this space for more top fighting action as it happens. In the meantime, take another look at the teaser trailer and let us know what you think.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
