It's not quite on the level of hell freezing over or spotting a V formation of migrating pigs, nevertheless Firemint's decision to cut the price of its brilliant Real Racing is significant.

Ever since EA cut the price of The Sims 3 from $9.99 to $6.99, Real Racing has been left as the only premium priced game on the App Store.

But it finally dropped out of the all-important US Top 100 a couple of weeks ago.

That, and feedback from fans, seems to have combined to persuade Firemint to experiment with a weekend sale for the game.

The sale price will be $6.99.

Of course, it will be fascinating to see whether this becomes a full price cut in time. Clearly, that decision will depend on how many additional copies are sold, and how that affects overall revenue.

But in the meantime, if you haven't got Real Racing yet, you know what to do and when.
