Jurassic 3D Rollercoaster Rush

What better way to escape the snappy jaws of a Tyrannosaurus Rex than by looping rollercoaster? The anachronistic Jurassic 3D Rollercoaster Rush gives you flight from the terrible beast with effortless tilts of your handset, though its simplicity ends up biting it in the rear.

A thematic variation on the original 3D Rollercoaster Rush, this prehistoric iteration features the exact same mechanics of play. You control a train of rollercoaster cars as it speeds along predefined tracks, tilts of your device accelerating and slowing it down.

Timing your tilts is what the game is all about. Soaring through a loop demands maximum velocity, while a steep jump requires putting on the brakes to keep your cars from crashing and the riders parachuting to safety.

Points are awarded for exciting the passengers with speed, jumps, and other daredevil moves. Acquire enough points and you receive a star for the track, a maximum of three available per ride.

Naturally, nabbing stars becomes more challenging the further you progress through the game's 40 tracks. You can easily grab all three stars in a first run on any of the first few tracks, but tricky slopes and precipitous gaps throw things for a loop in later levels.

Never does it become truly terrifying, though. Once you devise a method for dealing with steep falls and gaps in the track - which you will soon after beginning play - Jurassic 3D Rollercoaster Rush loses its challenge. Races on each course encourage you to come back to beat a ghost train with a speedy run, but there's limited desire to do so considering you've already zipped through the tracks once before.

Greater variety in the levels and more features (online leaderboards, anyone?) would create more interest. Quite frankly, it would work better as a download within 3D Rollercoaster Rush instead of a standalone title.
