Hut, hut, hut; iPhone gets another NFL game: Backbreaker Football
Promises best animation to date
It is the season to get sacked on the App Store.
Gameloft's NFL 2010 is riding high in the US Top 100 and EA Mobile's preparing its Madden 10 for a 10 September launch.
Is there space for another game?
Even one from two Limey companies that doesn't include any official NFL player licences?
Well Oxford animation outfit NaturalMotion is working with London-based Ideaworks3D on Backbreaker Football: Tackle Alley.
The history of the game is interesting as it's a spin-off from NaturalMotion's PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 bound Backbreaker game.
It was inspired from one of its mini-games, and promises us "an intense, arcade football experience".
Using accelerometer controls and on-screen buttons, you have to sprint, dodge and spin past waves of oncoming defenders, racking up point combos and score multipliers on the way to the end zone.
Facebook integration will enable you to compare your high scores with friends and the rest of the world.
And because of its expertise in human animation, NaturalMotion reckons the game will demonstrate the highest quality animation yet seen on iPhone.
"We're excited to kick off the Backbreaker football experience on the iPhone and are stunned to see what visual fidelity is achievable on this platform," said Torsten Reil, NaturalMotion's CEO.
"Together with our partners Ideaworks3D, we think we've come up with something special and can't wait to get it into everyone's hands."
Backbreaker Football: Tackle Alley is due to be released sometime this autumn.
